News from The Crypt

Welcome to Ripped From The Crypt
July 28th 2010
Ok I admit it. I’m crap at sticking to a plan! I am trying to post a review each week to keep things ticking along but I really would like anyone who wants to give it a go to submit a review to the site. Even if you aren’t keen to or feel you might not do it justice then please recommend us to your friends.
The tv series reviews were proving to be really time consuming so I will probably add reviews for complete seasons soon and hopefully other visitors and contributors to the site will cover the episodes that I haven’t. However the True Blood book reviews are coming – cleverly I read 6 books in the series, back to back, in quick succession and am now having trouble remembering what happened in which book. D’oh!
The site’s traffic fluctuates but despite that it gets thousands of visitors every month and I don’t want them to get bored by the same few voices so if you feel like you have something to say then give it a go. We aren’t critical and there is a high likelihood your review will get published (make sure it hasn’t already been done first) and then you can bask in the warm glow of knowing that people across the world are reading your words.
Most of our traffic comes from America followed by the UK, Australia and Canada so its a good job this site is in English

What is it about good intentions? Maybe the clue is in the word intention? I intended to catch up with reviews and updates and have actually achieved less than usual – although a whizzy site re-design is on its way soon (lots of new tricks have been learnt these past couple of months).
Life, work and alcohol have got in the way. Oh and had to launch my other half’s new site (you have no idea how long that took to get finished!). But its all out of the way now so I will launch myself into this with renewed vigour!
First up will be reviews of episodes 2 to 4 of The Vampire Diaries (loving that big time), a review of The Return (a Sarah Michelle Geller flick) and also my thoughts on the second Sookie Stackhouse book (that’s True Blood to most of you – Dead Until Dark to the better informed).
Keep checking back and please feel free to submit your own thoughts. We are majorly lacking in book reviews so your submissions would be much appreciated!
Oh and before I forget I have installed extra security to keep the hackers and spammers at bay. This means I was able to lift the embargo on how we would accept submissions – so get writing!

Christmas has come and gone and New Year quickly followed suit leaving most of us with the unpleasant reality of returning to work next week. But on a slightly more irritating note I managed to miss the last episode of True Blood!
After a little searching on Channel 4’s highly confusing website I discovered it was to be repeated this coming Sunday at a little after 1am – oh that’s just perfect I thought. True Blood then just 5 hours sleep before I have to go back to work! Except, guess what? Its now disappeared from the schedule!!!!!!!! Argh! Although in a week’s time they are showing the previous episode again! Are they doing this deliberately to torture me?! So I either wait 2 weeks to see if it magically appears or I watch it online in crap-o-vision.
Its not really a contest – 40 high-def inches or 4 pants-def inches! So I will wait and no doubt will treat you to another rant in a fortnight once they have shifted the schedules again.
Happy New Year and stay frosty!

Last month I confidently claimed I would make weekly updates to this page. This seemed to coincide with my total lack of foresight regarding Christmas and the chaos it causes. We will be back on track soon and a complete site redesign is in the works to allow for greater flexibility as it is already outgrowing the current format.
We have seen a huge influx of traffic this month from the likes of Digg and StumbleUpon which is great – welcome to the site! And please please please give any posts you like the thumbs up so that we are able to reach an even bigger audience
Right, its late but the latest review is online and my Christmas tree is finally decorated so I am going to call it a day. The last couple of days’ bad weather has turned my usual 20 minute commute into a 3 hour commute so I cant begin to tell you how much I am looking forward to firing up the engine in the morning…
be cool

November 28th 2009
Well it’s been a trying week. Some a-hole hacked the host server and RFTC got caught up in the mess (we were the first to alert the hosts of this and actually got the site up and running again before they fixed the problem – that was a long night!)
So apologies for any of you who couldn’t get onto the site. I really hate hackers – what sort of twat gets their kicks out of depriving other people of the things they like? Perhaps they were beaten as children? They certainly should get the stuffing kicked out of them now!
Admittedly there haven’t been swathes of updates through November as I have been concentrating on search engine work and spreading the word. Normal service will be returned soon. Of course in the meantime please submit your reviews and please recommend the site to all your friends.
Since building the site one of the main things bugging me has been the search feature. It worked but sorted the results by date rather than relevance which made it less slick than I would like. This has now been upgraded and seems to be working pretty nicely!
I think I will do a general news update at least once a week to keep you informed of any developments. The site is getting more popular every day which means we are going to be trying that little bit harder to stay ahead of you
Right, it’s late so I am going to hit the sack and dream about sexy vampire girls! (actually the reality is my dreams will probably be to do with giant squirrels – I worry about myself sometimes…)

My name is James and I will be your guide. Now that I have your attention let me tell you why you are reading this…
I love horror but hate lame-ass fan sites. I have seen too many that are way too far up their own backsides and feel too much like a private club. So my aim is to offer an alternative and make this THE online destination for horror movie reviews, book reviews and much more for people who want to have their say and more importantly have it read by more than just 13 year olds. Over the coming months many more features will be added but for now we are working hard to add as much content as we possibly can. This is where we would like your help.
If you are passionate about horror, have a way with words and can add a bit of wit then why not submit a review to the site. Or if you aren’t quite up for that then please feel free to leave comments on any of the posts found here.
Our aim is to have 100 reviews online in time for Halloween, which is when we will be launching officially. So get involved right at the start and bask in the scathing comments people will leave if you try and give a good review to Leprechaun 6: Back 2 tha Hood.
So if you would love to write the occasional piece for us or simply make the odd comment then don’t hold back. A link to our submission guidelines can be found at the bottom of every page. Please familiarise yourself with them before you begin writing.
Tell your friends as well. Send them links to the site. Or get them (and yourself) to follow us on FaceBook or Twitter. The more the merrier and the quicker the site grows the better it will be.
