Submission Guidelines

Do you love horror? Do you have a flair for penmanship? Can you write an informative review of a film or a book or a tv show within the genre? And maybe more importantly can you inject it with humour and insight?

Our readers return to our site because they like what they read. Review sites are a dime-a-dozen. We are different because you get a sense of the personalities behind it. Ripped From The Crypt is a community and to us its important that the words on our pages come from our members. Whether they work at S-Mart or sell property on Elm Street.

This doesn’t however mean that we aren’t fussy. If your submission is crap we wont run it. We will however nicely thank you for your missive and if we can offer suggestion about how to make it meet our criteria we will do so. We reserve the right to edit any article or review and will always credit the original author.

For the legal nitty gritty please check out our terms of use and legal information.

Ok, so you want to write for us. Great! Welcome onboard.
Register as a user of the site and you will be given “contributor” status. Recently the site got hacked and thanks to the scumbag bits of sh*t that did this we have put extra precautions in place that will hopefully allow you to get involved while keeping the spammers and hackers out. If you want to write for us (and we would love you to do so) please register and submit your piece.

Before you begin writing (especially if it is a review) please do a search on the site and see if it has already been tackled. As a courtesy to all our authors we will only replace a post if the one you submit is incredibly good. Of course you can always comment on reviews. Discussion is a good thing and if it gets passionate and heated then so much the better (no slagging people off though or we will kick you out).

Your piece will then join our appraisal queue and one of our editors will read it and either publish it or bounce it back to you. Once you have had several pieces published we will grant you “author” status allowing you to publish straight to the site. Abuse that privilege, advertise other services or defame Ripped From The Crypt and we will bust you back down to “contributor” and may even cancel your account. Although we believe this will rarely happen as from our experiences we realise horror fans are intelligent, dedicated and often funny individuals and we have faith in your ability to help us turn Ripped From The Crypt into the No.1 horror and terror site on the net.

We would really like you to have a gravatar (the photo of the post author). These are linked to your email address so if you log in using that address and write a review or leave a comment it will automatically insert your pic. This is important to us to build familiarity within the community. If you have one great! If not head over to www.gravatar.com and get it sorted!

When you do come to write your review please try and include a synopsis before launching into your opinion. Not everyone will have seen the film or read the book so don’t leave them wandering confused in the dark. Also make sure you have your facts straight! And we like the extra details so make sure you have the author/director/stars details ready (you enter these in the excerpts box) – see current reviews for the format we use. Oh and of course don’t forget to put it in the right category…

Thank you.
